Just a simple, erm, "beauty shot" of the Insignia Class USS Phoenix

I have seen your ship before, and I like to say.....
Excellent ship, it looks fast.

Seen this class around on the net for a while now; recognised it as being inspired by the Nova class concepts at the back of the TNG Technical Manual due to its segmented saucer, but "in the flesh" this is well-realised and pleasingly proportioned.

Is the saucer still supposed to be composed of semi-independent modules, or is that just styling?

Yes, they are supposed to be interchangeable mission modules and indeed, it was based on the design at the back of the technical manual. I took that design and used Soverign Class stylings to bring the look more "up-to-date"

Excellent stuff. Over the years I've been quite tempted to try a design based on the TNG Tech Manual Nova concept with the 24-degree elliptical saucer. Sadly my computer art skills are rudimentary at best and firmly limited to 2D, so if it sees the light of day at all it will be as a pencil-and-paper work scanned into Photoshop...

Heey, I know this design. You did it about 4 years ago, didn't you? I found it really ass-kicking. Very moderate, but logical considering how Sovereign looked like. Great job!

Hi Crimson, the first incarnation of this design was actually over 10 years ago, based on a design at the back of the TNG Technical manual. I modified the design to be more Sovereign like, as you say, and I have created around 2-3 versions of the mesh all with different shapes and level of detail. This is the latest version - perhaps the last, but you never know ;)

Since the Insignia-class is such a popular design in fanfic circles and with modelers,I've scene plenty of "beauty shots" of the class. But this is one that truly does the term justice.
