Avalon Station orbiting a star by MarkKingsnorth Avalon Station orbiting a star by MarkKingsnorth
A shot of a starbase orbiting a nearby star above an asteroid field, done with my new graphics tablet which I love. Mainly a combination of 3D Studio and Photoshop.

I was sort of going for the city/skyscraper look. Interesting observation.

The impact of this piece is enormous. My only criticism would be the level of detail on all but the foremost asteroids compared to the space station. They seem more of an afterthought to balance the composition.

Yes, agreed - the asteroids were pure Photoshop and the station was mainly 3DS Max. Perhaps next time I'll model the asteroids as well to maintain the same level of detail.

Though the asteroids weren't the afterthought - if anything, the station was!

Thanks! I always feel like I've cheated if I put a big bright star in to wash out the rest of the scene ;)
